This compatible TN450 prints about 2,600 pages at roughly 0.8¢ a page and replaces the genuine Brother TN450. It fits the Brother DCP-7060D, Brother DCP-7065DN and Brother HL-2220 and 13 other Brother models. The drum is separate on these printers, so keep a DR420 on hand.

How to install it

Open the front cover and let the printer cool for a few minutes if it has been printing.
Pull out the drum and toner assembly together, then press down the green lock lever and lift the old cartridge out of the drum.
Unpack the new cartridge and rock it gently side to side five or six times to spread the toner evenly.
Slide the new cartridge into the drum until the lock lever clicks.
Slide the green tab on the drum from left to right three times to clean the corona wire, then return it to the home position.
Put the assembly back in, close the cover, and print a test page.
If the display still asks you to replace the toner, run the toner reset from the control panel.

If something goes wrong

The display still says replace toner

Brother printers count pages rather than measure toner, so the message stays until the counter is reset. Open the front cover, hold the control panel steps for your model, and the count clears.

Pages come out blank or very light

Nine times out of ten the sealing tape is still in place or the cartridge needs rocking to spread the toner. Pull the cartridge, check the tape, rock it gently, and reinstall.

Streaks or a repeating mark down the page

Streaks usually come from the drum, not the toner. Clean the corona wire if your printer has one, and check the drum count before replacing the cartridge again.

Questions about the TN450

How many pages does a TN450 print?

About 2,600 pages. The rating follows Approx. yield per ISO/IEC 19752 (letter/A4). That is a rated average, so heavy graphics use toner faster than plain text.

TN450 or TN420: which one fits my printer?

Both fit the same printers. The TN450 is the high-yield cartridge and the TN420 is the standard-yield one, so the difference is how often you swap it, not whether it works.

Do I need a new DR420 drum too?

Not every time. On these Brother printers the drum is a separate part that lasts through several toner cartridges. Replace the DR420 when the printer reports drum life, not when you change toner.

Does a compatible cartridge void my printer warranty?

No. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act a manufacturer cannot void your warranty just because you used a third-party cartridge. If a cartridge of ours damages your printer, our printer damage protection covers the repair.

What if it does not work in my printer?

Send it back. Returns are open for 90 days and that includes opened cartridges that are defective. Shipping is free both ways.
