Editorial standards

This page explains how everything on this site gets researched, reviewed and updated, and who is responsible for it.

Where facts come from

Part numbers, compatible printer lists, page yields and yield standards come from the manufacturer’s own published specifications. When a manufacturer’s site cannot be read by our tools, we use a major retailer’s listing of that manufacturer’s own product and we name which one on the page. We do not take specifications from other compatible-cartridge sellers, because errors there propagate.

Prices

Genuine cartridge prices are quoted with their source and the date we checked them. Competitor prices on our comparison pages are quoted the same way. We re-check monthly and the date on the page changes when we do.

Who reviews content

Product and printer pages are checked by Dan Whitaker, print technician, before publication. Guides that touch firmware, warranty law or troubleshooting carry a reviewer line naming the person who checked them.

Updates

Pages show the date they were last updated, and we only change that date when the content actually changed. A refreshed date on an unchanged page is a lie told to a search engine, and we don’t do it.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, tell us. We fix the page, and if the error was material we note what changed at the bottom of it.

Competitors

Our comparison pages use competitors’ own published terms, link to the source for each claim, and include a section on where they beat us. We do not call a competitor’s product counterfeit or unsafe.
