Cartridge recycling

An empty toner cartridge is about two pounds of plastic and metal that does not belong in a landfill.

What to do with empties

Keep the box your new cartridge came in. It is sized for the empty one.
Seal the empty in a bag first. Loose toner is messy and it is a nuisance to clean.
Office supply retailers and municipal e-waste days accept cartridges. Manufacturers run free take-back programs for their own brands.

Do not do this

Do not vacuum spilled toner with a household vacuum. The particles are fine enough to pass through the filter and into the air. Use a damp cloth and cold water, since hot water fuses toner to fabric.
