TN760 vs TN730: which Brother cartridge should you buy?

They fit exactly the same printers. The TN730 is rated at about 1,200 pages and the TN760 at about 3,000, both against ISO/IEC 19752. At our prices that’s 2.1¢ a page against 1.0¢, so the TN760 is the cheaper cartridge to run unless you print very little.

The numbers

Yields are Brother’s own figures, quoted “in accordance with ISO/IEC 19752 (letter/A4)” on the TN760 and TN730 product pages. Prices checked September 17, 2026.

They fit the same machines

Brother lists identical compatible machines for both cartridges: DCP-L2550DW, HL-L2350DW, HL-L2370DW, HL-L2370DW XL, HL-L2390DW, HL-L2395DW, MFC-L2690DW, MFC-L2710DW, MFC-L2717DW, MFC-L2730DW, MFC-L2750DW and MFC-L2750DW XL. If your printer is on that list, either cartridge drops in. Check yours on its own page, for example the HL-L2350DW or the MFC-L2710DW.

So when does the TN730 make sense

• You print a few pages a week. Toner sitting in a machine for two years is not obviously better than buying a smaller cartridge more often, and the cheaper ticket price is real.
• You need one now and it’s what’s in the cupboard.
• Several printers, shared spares. Some offices standardize on the standard yield so one shelf stock covers everything.

For everyone else the high yield wins. Four hundred pages a month means about one TN760 a year against two and a half TN730s, and roughly $34 saved a year on toner alone, plus fewer cartridge changes.

What the yield number actually means

ISO/IEC 19752 is a standard test with a fixed page, so both numbers describe the same conditions. Brother says it plainly: what you actually get depends on what you print. Heavy graphics and dense tables pull the number down, plain text pushes it up. Treat 3,000 as a comparison figure, not a promise.

Don’t forget the drum

Both cartridges pair with the DR730 drum unit, a separate part rated for about 12,000 pages. A repeating mark down the page usually means the drum, not the toner, which you can confirm with a test page.
