Which cartridge does the M428fdw take?
HP lists the HP 58A (CF258A) at approximately 3,000 pages and the HP 58X (CF258X) at approximately 10,000 pages for North America. HP's user guide notes 58A and 58X are for the M428 specifically, with 59A/59X and 76A/76X listed for other regions.
Does it do two-sided printing and scanning?
HP lists automatic duplex printing as the default on this model, plus a 50-sheet automatic document feeder. The machine is a four-function print, copy, scan and fax unit with a 2.7-inch colour touchscreen.
Can I use a compatible (non-HP) cartridge?
HP states that when a cartridge that is not a genuine HP cartridge is installed, the control panel displays a message that the cartridge is unauthorized and explains how to proceed. HP also documents cartridge protection, which stops a cartridge protected on one printer from printing in another.
